Your walls were once filled with my children’s laughter, your wooden floors felt my daughter’s first steps, and each room was bursting with good times in its own right.
Now those walls echo with open space, and a kind of heartache only nightmares are made of.
Thank you. You have been good to us.
The backyard lawn we once picnicked on and the sprinklers we ran through are now brown and broken.
Thank you. You have been good to us.
The kitchen was once filled with rich conversation, and the cabinets that overflowed with snacks, are now quiet and bare.
The sweet smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies cooling on the counter has faded into the abyss along with our marriage that once was.
Thank you. You’ve been good to us.
The living room we gathered in, on the couch we watched movies on, and the Christmas tree we plugged in, that light up the room every night, is now vacant and black.
It’s come time to let you go. But first, I wanted to say:
Thank you.
You have been good to us.
