VivoBook F510UA is your budget-oriented laptop which comes with the looks of a premium laptop. It looks really well and you would have a hard time believing that this laptop feels similar to Dell XPS but costs only a fraction of its value.
Overall, the laptop is an ideal choice for day to day work and entertainment. But it isn’t a high-performance laptop so demanding tasks such as gaming and editing video isn’t that great on this laptop.
Display
The laptop is equipped with a 15.6-inch display which is enough most work and entertainment. What makes this screen even better is that it uses NanoEdge display which makes the display sleek and provides an 80% screen to body ratio.
The IPS panel is beautiful and 1080p resolution means that all you get are clear and crisp visuals. Asus claims that its Splendid Visual Optimization technology makes it a lot better than the standard IPS displays. So, whether you want to browse the web, watch movies, use a word processor or want to perform any other task, this laptop will not disappoint you in the display section.
Audio
The VivoBook doesn’t boast of any specialized audio system which means the sound quality is mediocre and falls short of acceptable at times. You can listen to songs or watch movies on this laptop without much distortion at higher volumes. Still, if you want to have some entertainment the performance isn’t half as bad as it seems, especially, considering the price tag.
Performance
You can get this laptop at a great discount using Amazon coupons but it doesn’t mean that you need to compromise in the performance department. VivoBook F510UA comes with the latest 8th gen Intel i5 8250U processor with a base speed of 1.6 GHz and a boost up to 3.5 GHz. It is equipped with 8 GB DDR4 RAM and an Intel HD 620 display adapter. This is a solid specification for a budget-oriented laptop bought by an average person.
It will give a solid performance is a variety of tasks which don’t require a significantly high computation power, such as games and streaming.
You also get a 1 TB hard-drive for storage along with a fast Wi-Fi for top-notch internet connectivity.
In short, it is an excellent budget-oriented laptop when you consider its price to performance ratio.
During a Cinebench run, the CPU scored 144 points in single thread performance and 556 points in multithread section. This puts it at par with the i7 6700u and is sometimes even better.
Gaming
The laptop isn’t designed with gaming in mind but it doesn’t mean that you can’t game on it at all. Casual games like DOTA 2, Counter-Strike GO, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, etc. would be playable with good frame rates at acceptable settings. Unfortunately, demanding games such as Battlefield V, Assassins Creed: Odyssey, etc will struggle to maintain a playable frame rate, even on lowest settings. All this is due to the measly integrated Intel HD GPU.
Battery Performance
One of the most important factors that need to be considered is the battery performance of your laptop. Unfortunately, some corners had been cut to keep the price down. Thus, the battery performance isn’t as good as expected. You get an acceptable battery backup of 5 hours whereas the competing Dell laptop gets up to 6 hours and the 15-inch MacBook 2014 can last up to 9 hours.
Anyway, keep the charger around and you won’t feel that the laptop is not giving enough battery backup. And in most cases, 5 hours will be enough.
Design
Design-wise the laptop improves on the previous generation of VivoBooks. It is lighter as well as thinner than the previous models without compromising its durability. It is sleek and stylish thanks to the gorgeous grey finish. Even though the body is mostly made up of plastic it doesn’t seem cheap to look at.
The keyboard and touchpad are responsive but you don’t get a back-lit keyboard. In case you are wondering about the ports present on the laptop then you have got yourself a USB 3.1 Type-C port, a USB 3.0 port alongside one USB 2.0 port. There is a full-size HDMI port to attach an external display. Unfortunately, you don’t have a disk drive, who uses them anyway, and you don’t get an ethernet port. This might have been done to keep the laptop thin but some expensive laptops have found a way around this.
You have 3.5mm audio jack, along with an SD card reader and a webcam.
Conclusion
The VivoBook might not be the best laptop in the market but if you don’t have a high-budget and want a decent laptop to perform your day to day tasks then Asus VivoBook F510UA is certainly a great choice. It is stylish, light-weight and costs only ₹45,000. So, in short, if you are planning to buy this laptop then go ahead you won’t regret your decision.
