The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians are excelling in the Cactus League, while the New York Yankees and Houston Astros are finding success in the Grapefruit League. All four made the postseason last year, with the Astros eventually emerging as World Series champions. In reality, the results during spring training don’t mean too much — the Yanks even let Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson have an at-bat (he struck out) during one of their games last Friday. One wrinkle to this spring training is some big names remain unsigned after a bizarre free agency period. The MLB Players Assn. even filed a grievance against four teams — the Rays, Marlins, Pirates, and Athletics — alleging those clubs purposely weren’t spending money on available players in a blatant attempt at tanking. The MLBPA has rolled out a group of free agents to compete against other squads as they look for new homes during spring training. Baseball fans aren’t too deterred by all that and the occasional injury, though. “Spring Training” has a 67 percent positive score on Social over the past 14 days. –Alex Shultz
