As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Corker was considered essential to President Donald Trump’s quest to nuke the Iran nuclear deal. But since announcing his retirement, Corker has made it clear why he won’t miss Washington. “He concerns me,” Corker told The New York Times about Trump and his undiplomatic behavior, especially on Twitter. “He would have to concern anyone who cares about our nation.” Social agrees, giving Corker a 53 percent positive sentiment rating after his feud with Trump went public. Corker’s comments could also have consequences in a critical Cabinet conflict between Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who is a close friend of Corker. Tillerson was once seen as one of Trump’s safest picks (at least, safe for Trump), but the capital was rocked last week when NBC News revealed that Tillerson has been on the verge of resignation since July and privately referred to Trump as a “moron” in a meeting at the Pentagon that month. Having Corker on his side could be a further liability for Tillerson. –Hugo Guzman
