It’s called ‘Lift the Skirt Day,’ and aims to reduce sexism in French schools.
—
According to the news report, a group of young men in Nantes, France, decided to wear skirts to school—with the backing of the educational authority—in an “anti-sexism” move called “Lift the Skirt Day,” after a recent government report was released which asserts that “teachers give preferential treatment to male students.”
One young man said:
I thought wearing a skirt’s no big deal and if it does some good, then great.
An anti-marriage equality group of about 150 protestors showed up outside one of the participating schools and confronted the students, calling the initiative “scandalous.”
Arthur Moinet—the organizer of the protest—told the reporter:
We notice that in a lot of high schools in our region there are lots of cases of sexism and discrimination. So, we thought we’d do something to change that. So we came up with this idea.
Sexism is not just about women who need to be defended, sexism is a daily struggle also for men. Men can be victims of sexism as well.
French conservatives are outraged following the introduction of an equality curriculum earlier in the year. They believe the new curriculum teaches tolerance of LGBTQ people.
