The easiest way to create social change is to wield your consumer power wisely. Here’s one man setting out to do just that.

The retail giant Target has recently come “under fire” due to its refusal to change its open carry policy. Many pictures and stories have surfaced of consumers strapped with rifles… simply because they can. At the moment protests from both sides are taking place across the nation. Here’s the story of a mom’s group in Virginia doing their part:

HOORAY for Target for protecting it’s shoppers. If this guy won’t shop there, I feel safer.
Here’s a question: if a firm restricts open carry and a pro-gun activist conducted a similar protest would you run an article on it?
How about prohibiting cops from entering any building with a NO GUNS sign on the outside? They would have to leave them in their patrol cars. I have yet to see one GMP article that calls for gun control on them.
Target was once my favorite store, but not now. Not anymore.
I’ll say here just as I did on the other gun control related thread that was posted a few days ago, the overwhelming amount of scholarly research on gun control laws has found that laws restricting the carry and ownership of firearms by private citizens does not lead to increases in crime or accidental shootings. With that said, I am also not necessarily opposed to open carry, but I personally do not feel it is the most appropriate method of carrying a firearm for self-defense. Thanks, Doc. Good points, and I firmly agree that honesty and transparency is important to educating us or actually implementing something beneficial.
I don’t care if pro-gun or anti-gun advocates protest or exercise their rights either, as long as it makes sense and there is a clear directive. Easier said than done. As you said, people carrying guns on their backs are seemingly doing it for shock value more than anything else.
saying ‘academic’ doesn’t neccesarily mean their findings are correct. it is important to look at where their research funding comes from before truly critiquing their findings- that works for both left and right btw. I am for banning guns without license- one of the possible reasons UK has a lower rate of gun crime and murders
UK had a lower incidence of gun related violence compared to the US even back when both countries had lenient gun laws. For a period in the early 2oth century, New York State had stricter gun laws than the UK, and the UK still had lower incidence of gun related violent crime.
If research is government funded, is it likely to be biased in favor of policies which increase government power?
