Honestly, sometimes I learn more from the Daily Show then I do the news itself. I saw this report and I didn’t even know kids where working on tobacco farms. I’m not sure no one cares. I don’t think people realize it’s even happening. I didn’t untilI saw it reported on from the Daily Show. We really need to bring our focus back to the US. Not that we shouldn’t care about what happens to other countries and their people or try to help. But we have people suffering here that needs our attention. Where do these kids come from? Where are their parents? Did they get shipped here unaccompanied from, say, Guatemala and farmed out by DHS or the Border Patrol or some Mexican cartel? There are a lot of questions whose answers would be pretty ominous. Or their parents could be renting them out to neighboring farmer. Or they could be the farmer’s own kids. If it’s the last case, then the question is how their work is supervised by the farmer/parent. Back in the good old days of the family farm, kids were doing something useful by this age.
