Sometimes love is communicated best through music.

My son is 16 and most of his music is just not my thing. He used to like metal but by his admission, that phase is pretty much behind him. (Thankfully… sorry King Diamond… you are now old school).
Every now and then, he has a song that resonates with me. This time, it is “Don’t Let Me Down” by The Chainsmokers. The song is a dubstep mix that features stunning vocals by Daya.

Sometimes good parenting is allowing your teenager to influence you. In this case, it shows that you are listening, not only to their playlist but mostly to their hearts. Parenting is strongest when we have influence over what is inside their hearts.
Music is an expression of what is dearest to each of us. When a parent takes the time to listen, I think it says something. And music can have a powerful healing effect, something I have written about previously.

For me, the song resonates because of the strength of the vocals, the lead guitar, and the singers cry “Don’t let me down.” The music has some pretty impressive hydraulic suspension effects, but the video does not suit the song (at least for me).
I share it with you because right now because the song reminds me that I am working at being a dad who won’t let his kids, and his family down.
