If you’re not familiar with the name Claire Wineland, you should know that she was a fighter, an optimist, and an inspiration to millions. She was also living, no thriving, with Cystic fibrosis.
Claire Wineland passed away in September at the age of 21.
Claire’s strength in facing her mortality is something we’re probably not used to witnessing. CNN reported that in 2017, she told her mother, “After you die, you’re closer to everyone you love because you’re part of everything.”
That same strength pushed her to advocate on behalf of sick people around the world and challenge our definition of happiness.
In the Goalcast video above, Claire asked the audience:
“Because I have lived the kind of life that all of you spend your entire lives running from. I’ve been sick and dying my entire life. And yet, I am so proud of my life. What does that say about how we’re all living our lives.”
Claire’s challenge to us is to dig deep so that we can transform the inner landscape, to find a bit of peace right here and now no matter what the circumstance.
RIP Claire Wineland
I hope that we can all accept Claire’s challenge and continue to make her life meaningful, to continue spreading her word that happiness comes from within. Each and every one of us, no matter the circumstance, has the opportunity to experience inner peace.
