After years of watching The Good Men Project (GMP) develop into a thriving organization that provides wisdom, tools, and frameworks to empower men and bridge today’s complexity of intimacy, relationships, and redefining what it means to be a man, we had the honor of interviewing Michael Kasdan of The Good Men Project in June of 2017.
Michael was a guest on the Charter for Compassion International (CCI) Women and Girls sector’s year-long webinar series: Reaction to Response: Shifting from Fear-Based Reactions to Compassion-Based Responses. What a great conversation we had! (You can watch it herehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyGKX9ePLJY)
The depth and breadth of Michael’s wisdom and experiences thoroughly validated everything we thought about GMP and their very true tagline. Indeed, they are having “the conversation no one else is having” about the changing roles of men in the 21st century.
It may be obvious why their work is relevant to us here at the Women and Girls Sector.
One of our goals is to advance the UN Sustainability Goals. One of the best ways to do that is to elevate the voices of CCI’s partners (we have over 1800 partners, many of which are in the more than 400 cities of Compassion, in 52 countries).
The more conversations we are having, the more pragmatic practices we can provide that promote compassion and understanding — especially around gender identity and equal/human rights — the better it is for people and planet.
Over the past years, the Good Men Project has developed Social Interest Groups — live phone calls focused on difficult topics that people anywhere in the world could join. Because of the virtual nature of these calls, GMP can connect not just individuals, but also, on a global scale, with organizations committed to similar values and goals. Now, they are ready to scale the Social Interest groups even bigger!
The Good Men Project has just launched an IndieGoGo campaign to disrupt and re-invent media! They are creating a new form of media — “Participatory Media.”
No one else has a way that groups of people can talk to each other every day in an organized fashion about some of the most important topics on our planet. And that is their goal — Helping people process a rapidly changing world in which there is too much information. This is real live conversations about what is important.
We, at the Charter for Compassion Women and Girls Sector are thrilled to endorse and support the efforts of one of our partners. We hope you will too. Check out their campaign! Share this campaign and contribute if you believe it is as worthwhile as we do!
