Are there misconceptions about the sex industry?

It’s interesting that so many people have this idea that prostitutes must be disease ridden. I’ve met more non-sex workers who don’t use condoms than actual sex workers, in fact, sex workers are absolutely paranoid about getting a disease and are VERY vigilant about condoms and protection.
There are a lot of misconceptions about people who work in the sex industry in this day and age. Sure, there are damaged women … but they exist within relationships and regular jobs as well. Most people have some damage that’s been done to them as a result of emotional abuse in families or relationships, so it’s a bit weird that so many men assume sex workers are somehow the only ones with this. I know sex workers who have never been abused as kids, and they DO like their jobs.
There is also a revolution happening in the porn industry with more feminists directing feminist porn that is far from dehumanizing and actually educational. Things are changing quite a lot, but if you’ve never actually been to see a sex worker you wouldn’t know that I suppose.
