If only we could learn to practice fairness, integrity and respect for one another.

What makes a man look at another man with a lustful eye? I don’t know. I do know, what a person does not know can scare them. People are not so receptive to change our differences.
As a writer, I have much to say about the recent events in Orlando. But, as a husband and a father, I find myself speechless. Then shortly after speechless, I find myself playing ‘clean up’ after Media has force fed my family ideas that are from from the truth. Ideas that furthermore help develop the story line of America’s deadliest mass shooting. This whole report on the massacre has become a race for ratings.
Don’t get me wrong. I totally sympathize for the families and victims and survivors, just as much if not more than the next man. I only want for the world to stop mistreating people as they have. I want the world to understand there are differences in people’s preferences and such. No need to react with hate. No need to react with disgust. No need to fear the unknown. Expand your horizons. Study a culture. Get to know someone.
I’m not in anyway saying that this whole mess could have been avoided had society not felt fear for what it doesn’t know. I’m only saying that if we as a collective society practiced more acceptance than exception, other people would feel more at will to learn and understand other’s differences and preferences.
What kind of statement is the country making by not accepting blood donations from gay men? Surely not the kind that says ‘We respect and understand you’. So if society doesn’t respect them enough to allow them to donate blood. How do you expect someone with a hateful heart is going to feel about disliking them? Do you think they will consider their feelings? Do you think they’ll show some compassion? Or do you think they’ll internalize these feelings of hate and then express them through acts of violence towards said people. Gay bashing is not new. It’s definitely not cool. Everyone deserves to be treated fairly.
There’s almost no way of preventing a repeat of that morning. We can’t tell before the snap, who is going to snap. We can only hope that we pay enough attention to the signs and details of a mad person.

It’s like our country has built up this wall of phobias. Homophobia. Islamophobia. You name it. If it is different, it is feared. And when it is feared, it’s scary. And what happens when people are scared? Horrible things that come from a fearful place in the heart that causes one to fight or take flight. Most people naturally choose to fight. Not cool.
If only we could learn to not fear what we do not know. If only we could learn to accept others differences and preferences. If only we could learn to practice fairness, integrity and respect for one another. I’m sure the world would be a better place. Only if.
Instead, we have a society against this and afraid of that. Scared of this and not sure of that. This is where all the fears come from. The unknown. Once a person is faced with the unknown, they are forced to react. It can be a lot of pressure. That pressure builds up inside and one day becomes a blown gasket. One day a school gets shot up. One day a church is shot up. One day a club is shot up.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to rationalize the Orlando massacre. Not at all. I don’t feel there’s an excuse for it at all. There is a reason, though. And that reason is pinned up aggression in a fearful section. And that section was that man’s heart. As empty as it may seem, it was filled with fear.
There’s almost no way of preventing a repeat of that morning. We can’t tell before the snap, who is going to snap. We can only hope that we pay enough attention to the signs and details of a mad person. We need more people who understand how the mind works and how the media works on the mind. A lot of the images splattered throughout media promote anti this or hate that. Not cool.
Children have very impressionable minds. If we don’t watch what they watch, we may have another Pride shooting. Nobody wants that. Where’s the pride in that? When will the world realize that everybody loves somebody? Whether its a husband loving his wife. A boyfriend loving his girlfriend. Or a man loving another man. To each his own, how he treats his bone.
Who are we to judge?
Newsflash! This just in. The ancient greeks were ancient freaks. Not freaks of nature but freaks of the coliseum. Don’t believe me? Google it. Visit a museum. Check out those paintings. Naked men on men or men in robes partying with other men, with plenty of drinks and food around. Men frolicking around in robes and skirts and sandals.
Let’s Make America Great, Again.
This is exactly what Donald Trump wants to do when elected POTUS. Not so sure I know what he’s talking about. But, I am sure I don’t want to bear witness to it. It’s easy for him to promote this when the country looks like it does. Shootings and killings and ungodly events, all over. When we, the people, witness these types of ruin and destruction, we seek the help of a professional. Any professional. In times of need such as these.
We start to believe the hype. ‘I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.’ If the person who is seeking to run our country has thoughts like this, what are we to expect of his followers? Every Trump rally ended in violence of some sort.
And the King of the Flip Flop award has to go to Donald Trump. For this amazing quote in 2004.
“And it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans.”
I’ll just leave that right here.
How can the country be great? Under the direction of a man who is not sure what team he wants to play for. Under the direction of a man who is so openly sexist it’s at times, harassing. Under the direction of a man who wishes to divide our country even more with walls. Come on, now. Anyone who chooses to follow this man is borderline crazy. And if that’s the case, you need your head checked, more than once. You could be a mass murderer in the making.
