Despite Dem Gains, Pelosi Might be on the Bubble

Lamb had a few unusual advantages to bridge that gap: He’s a 33-year-old former Marine, former prosecutor, and scion of a prominent Pennsylvania political family. Plus, he was facing a weak opponent. But Lamb may have also been aided by one of his promises — that he would oppose any future efforts to keep Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on as the leader of the House Democratic Caucus. Pelosi has essentially been the party’s standard-bearer in Congress since 2007, when she was appointed Speaker of the House. She is now the Minority Leader and has been credited with holding together warring factions of Democrats, especially to pass Dodd-Frank financial reforms and Obamacare. But Pelosi has put Democratic candidates in red districts in tough spots, with conservatives quick to call opponents lackeys of the San Francisco liberal. Pelosi has mostly ignored those attacks and didn’t seem to mind Lamb’s strategy, saying, “I just wanted him to win.” Still, she might be in some trouble: Over the past 90 days, @NancyPelosi has a 37 percent positive score on Twitter. –Alex Shultz
