Why Donald Trump is neither a Unifier nor Good for Women

Among the absurd claims made by Mr. Donald Trump in this abnormal presidential election season we’re that he’s a unifier and good for women. However, in a matter of 72 hours, Mr. Trump, whose behavior suggest that he’s demented, has managed to prove that both claims were false.

Never-mind unifying a country divided along the lines of race, class, identity, religion, et al., the Republican presidential nominee, who after the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia has seen his lead among his key demographic diminish, is unable to unify his own party, as proven by the many Republicans who have not only left the GOP this year, but who plan to either not vote at all, or cast a ballot for Mr. Trump’s opponent, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, a candidate significantly more qualified for the job than the real-estate mogul but who’s equally as untruthful as he.

The first GOP Congressman to back Mrs. Clinton is the retiring Mr. Richard Hanna, who said Mr. Trump is “unfit to serve our party and cannot lead this country.”

Another prominent Republican to publicly disavow Mr. Trump is HP Enterprise CEO Ms. Meg Whitman, who will vote and fund-raise for Mrs. Clinton; Ms. Whitman, once a California gubernatorial candidate, called Mr. Trump a “dishonest demagogue.”

Mrs. Clinton, who lied repeatedly during a televised interview last Sunday about sending classified emails on her private server, received endorsements this week from the former treasury secretary under President George W. Bush; an adviser to former Florida Governor Mr. Jeb Bush; and the national security adviser to Presidents Mr. Gerald Ford and Mr. George H.W. Bush, all of whom are registered Republicans.

Besides members of the GOP jumping ship, tensions were further exacerbated this week when Mr. Trump – who yesterday had his bid to dismiss the class-action lawsuit against Trump University rejected – announced he was not yet prepared to endorse for re-election Mr. Paul D. Ryan, a Republican Congressman and the Speaker of the House who has been forced to respond ad naueseam to Mr. Trump’s ludicrous remarks, nor would he at this time endorse for re-election Senator John McCain, a war hero who repudiated the attacks by the GOP standard bearer on the Khans, a Gold Star family that appeared on stage at the Democratic National Convention.

The GOP, already in shambles, is now contending with the possibilities that Mr. Trump, who’s suggesting the General Election will be rigged, will drop-out of the race; strife, not unity, describes the GOP with Mr. Trump as their presidential nominee.

Mr. Trump says stupid sh*t; that’s his modus operandi; the utterances of mad-man should surprise no one, yet they still do. The latest blurt from Mr. Trump to gain attention and garner outrage centers around the touchy subject of sexual harassment, which has been front page news lately due to the controversy at Fox News that resulted in its CEO, Mr. Roger Ailes, resigning.

When asked about sexual harassment in the context of his daughter being objectified in the workplace, Mr. Trump said “I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case.”

Mr. Trump, who portrays himself as an advocate for women, didn’t use that moment to condemn sexual harassment in the workplace nor did he reinforce the notion that women aren’t to be objectified or made to feel uneasy in safe spaces. Instead, his remark seemed to suggest that rather than would-be-tormentors showing restraint and decency, it’s the responsibility of victims to navigate around, and avoid the malfeasance of others.

Nothing Mr. Trump says or does is proving that he’s a unifier, good for women, or capable of running the United States of America, letting alone making it great again, whatever that means. Mr. Trump is a con artist and his supporters, though dwindling, aren’t critical thinkers or highly educated; they are vulnerable individuals and Mr. Trump is exploiting their fears.

By doing so, he will likely become a cultural icon of sorts, but never will he be the man he advertises himself as, and hopefully, he will never become the commander-in-chief.
