This post is the opinion of the the author and does not necessarily represent The Good Men Project.
News broke in early June that production of the show, now in its fourth season, was abruptly halted in Mexico following potential sexual misconduct involving two contestants—Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson. Olympios alleged she was too drunk to consent to whatever took place, but an internal investigation by show owner Warner Bros. concluded that there was no evidence of wrongdoing. In the opening episode, Olympios and Jackson were shown occasionally, but with only brief allusions to what transpired. In the second episode, Bachelor host Chris Harrison attempted to address the controversy by leading a discussion with the remaining participants (Jackson and Olympios didn’t return after production was suspended). Harrison didn’t exactly knock it out of the park, though. As Vulture’s Ali Barthwell writes, “It was one of, if not the most, egregious and irresponsible discussions about sexual assault I have ever seen.” Both Jackson and Olympios are set to have one-on-one interviews with Harrison in future episodes, but if this week was any indication, those conversations aren’t going to be well received. Over the last day, “Bachelor in Paradise” has a 27 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
