After all, Gorsuch, a conservative constitutionalist, took the spot intended for Merrick Garland, who was President Obama’s choice for the Supreme Court vacancy that opened in 2016. To date, Gorsuch has stuck to the ideology that President Trump was expecting when he nominated him. A recent SCOTUS decision, however, is earning Gorsuch some praise from the left, even though he didn’t exactly have a change of heart. Gorsuch sided with the four liberal-leaning justices in a 5-4 decision that says the federal government doesn’t have the right to deport legal immigrants accused of “acts of violence” because that statue is too vague to be enforced properly. The ruling hit the Justice Dept. and Trump Administration hard, even spurring a POTUS tweet complaining about what its effects might be. Gorsuch’s reasoning didn’t line up with the other four, who contended that the law was unconstitutional; he was more concerned with the general idea that lawmakers are delegating too much power to government agencies. In other words, Gorsuch could someday go after the EPA or other regulatory bodies that enjoy broad support among liberals under (non-Trump) administrations. Still, over the past three days, Neil Gorsuch has a 69 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
