Macron has pushed through some controversial pro-business labor laws of late, which led to thousands of protestors out in force in Paris over the weekend. His political party—the Republic on the Move!—also had a disappointing showing in Sunday’s French Senate elections, which are voted on by roughly 75,000 local officials. In his defense, the new leader on the block has been a voice of reason on such global flash points as North Korea, telling CNN, “Look at the map, if we talk of a military solution, we speak about a lot of victims. Building peace is what we have to do in this region.” He also pushed President Trump to continue honoring the Iran nuclear deal, noting that not monitoring Tehran’s nukes heightens the risk of the country going the way of North Korea. That said, his level-headedness on foreign policy isn’t enough to forgive his perceived domestic blunders: Over the last 90 days, Macron has a 45 percent positive score on Twitter. –Alex Shultz
