Not squeamish about torture, necrophilia, or severed body parts? Alex Yarde has a show for you!
American Horror Story: Coven A wickedly gory third season of the hit American Horror Story franchise features Jessica Lange, Angela Basset and Kathy Bates (an actress dream team) headlining a powerhouse cast, tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Over three hundred years have passed since the turbulent days of Salem and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school (think Xavier’s School for Gifted Witches) in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe, who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona, the long-absent “Supreme” Witch, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.
If you haven’t been watching this wonderfully macabre series, I have three “Inside the Coven” videos and one “Next On” video for you,
“Inside the Coven: The Crescent City” Takes you Inside the Coven to learn why the erotic, exotic, and sultry New Orleans is the perfect backdrop for this season of American Horror Story.
Next is “Inside the Coven: Miss Robichaux’s Academy”: Go Inside The Coven to learn the history, design, and meaning behind Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies.
The final one is “Inside The Coven: The Power of Marie Laveau”: Learn the true history of Marie Laveau and how she weaves into the latest chapter of the American Horror Story.
Next On: “Head” Cordelia’s attacker is revealed. Fiona looks to form an alliance with Marie Laveau. Nan learns a disturbing truth about Luke’s past.
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, airs Wednesday nights at 10:00 PM ET/PT only on FX.
Let me try this again (page refreshed) This whole season ticks me off. I noticed from the start that this story line was not going to be worth a drop in a bucked in regards to the POC portrayal. The main thing is that, Marie does not have a true coven or tribe as it was called. She’s the only one with the power, wtf is that! Almost immediately that establishes the vibe of “us verse them” i.e. a noticeable downgrade in comparison. This let me know that this story line was being set up as a “we will over… Read more »
* the 12/11/13 ep.
Hiya Alex, SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS I wouldn’t miss this show. I have watched the prior seasons and I have to admit I absolutely loved the first season, was “okay” with the second season and started off hating this one. As a witch myself, particularly a BLACK witch, I was quite put off at both stereotypes in the show; black women and witches. I love Gaby (“Precious”) but she’s a fish out of water. (*ahem* Actually, more like a whale. I know, I’m sorry, that was horrible but that’s part of the problem I have with all of this) and… Read more »
Was it neccesary to refer to another human being as “more like a whale”? Not cool. Not cute. Not funny. Distasteful infact.
Carlette, you should very much care about what I think. You should very much care about what other people in general think. Especially if you want to encourage people to hear your message about black women and representation. You also should care because it would be hypocritical to expect people to care about what you had to say if you are unable to show the same respect in return. So far, you have not displayed that that is something you can do at this time. I hope that you come to find that you can create more positive change through… Read more »
Your initial comment to me was: “Was it neccesary to refer to another human being as “more like a whale”? Not cool. Not cute. Not funny. Distasteful infact.” You drew first blood honey so when I respond in kind, in typical white woman fashion, don’t cry foul. Erin, no, I don’t CARE what you think and only mildly care what other people in general think. It may be hard for you to actually believe that in your narcissistic world, but I don’t. I meant everything I said in my previous post – rarely to I ever say things I don’t… Read more »
Hi Carlette, you referred to a human being as an animal. That is repugnant. You can believe this is drawing blood but to me, it’s just a simple matter of knowing how to respect others. You also have reading comprehension issues since I clearly stated that black women experience special challenges. I have no clue how you believed this comment devalued black women in anyway. Kathy Bates has always been overweight. Plus, it doesn’t really matter that she is 60 or if she was 16. Being over weight is being over weight and it’s actually a misnomer that one has… Read more »
