GOD Pushed Me—Week 5

Today and each day this week, I have to remind myself as I once again read the book “Think and Grow Rich” one of the lines from the book “thoughts become things.”

Anytime there is an election, you read or hear about celebrities saying they are going to move to another country if so-and-so is elected. Those are false statements. Really, if you think about the fake threat, it is like what us parents do to our kids by telling them they are in trouble and are sent to their room and you tell them no dinner. Then, an hour later you bring them food.

My imagination has me thinking of my “leap.” If you jump out of an airplane you cannot do one of those tricks you ONLY see in cartoons by pretending to be slamming on the brakes and head back to the plane. No! It does not work that way. Once you take the leap you (and gravity) are headed straight down. There is no real exit plan other than believing that you are going to land on two feet.

I know that in last week’s column my intention was to essentially say that if God did not meet MY needs that I was going to move on somehow. For example here were my two “requests”:

1. Two new paid coaching clients
2. Sell 10 copies of our coloring book.

OK, as of this writing, neither of those “things” have actually happened yet. However, here is what has transformed since last week:

Quite honestly it has not been rainbows and Unicorns this past week. Yes, I was really very much ready to shut everything down (website, social media, and even writing). My normal instinct is that I am too embarrassed to ask for help. It’s the only child in me. I needed help.

My thought is that if I ask for help then the other person is going to say, “Sure, I would love to help you. That will be $500.” Have you ever had one of those conversations? I have. That was not what happened to me.

Marcus is one of the people who is more than a person I have interviewed on my podcast; he is a mentor to me. I sent him a text to ask if he had time to talk. Not only was Marcus free to talk, he gave me around two hours of his time. Why I needed his help was because I had self-confidence.

“…you will discover that your greatest weakness is a lack of self-confidence.”
-Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Marcus was able to remind me what positive attributes that I can impact others. One example was: have I ever “coached” people? Yes, I have. He then asked if they had paid for my service. Again, yes. Without really realizing that my thoughts were now turning positive things.

My issue was that I was stuck and felt shame (like in the movie “Slap Shot”) for not asking for help. Here is what I want to share with you out of what Marcus and I came up with to help me and my progression:

1. I needed to up my game with my goals. Yes, I have daily goals (like writing each day), but I needed a bigger picture like,  What is a one-year goal? Do you have 3, 6 and 12-month goals?
2. My physical fitness has been AWFUL! I needed to get back to doing my 10 thousand steps and eating better. I send Marcus a text showing what I have done each day for my fitness plan.
3. Ways to monetize the podcast.

Your call to action is to find a mentor or invest in coaching. There are people in your world that will be able to kick your ass but at the same time love you. I have those people in my life but needed to remind myself of not being such a dumb shit of not asking for their guidance.

Another example is currently my marriage. My wife and I are at a serious crossroads and as I have stated in other columns, I need to believe in myself to show my wife my self-confidence. If I do not do this TODAY then I will be coming to a couch in your town. I know that I have been a VERY bad partner this past couple of months. Hiding from her is not the answer. The real answer is being a better example as both a man and husband. I need to have my ass kicked. Do you as well?

What thoughts can you turn into action today? If you have read this far then it is an indication of asking for a change in your life. Yes, I do mean asking the “higher power” for help. There is nothing wrong to ask for help from your friends or God. Trust me on this. Each and every night my new formed habit is to say a little prayer before going to sleep. Why would I do this?! Why not. My hope is that my thoughts do become things: those things could be the form of opportunities. What things do you want to manifest?
