Move over Sports Illustrated because Zenescope has brought its 2019 Swimsuit Special to the party.
That’s right, the independent comic book company now has a swimsuit edition featuring some of your favorite Zenescope characters.
Robyn Locksley (Robyn Hood), Skye Mathers (Grimm Fairy Tales), Cindy (Cinderella, Serial Killer Princess), Jasmine, Peyton Parks (The Black Knight), Callie Liddle (Alice in Wonderland), Dorothy Gale (Oz), Annabelle DiMarco (Belle, the Beast Hunter), Liesel Van Helsing (Van Helsing) and more are all together in one issue along with a short nine-page story.
For those not in the know, the ladies of Zenescope are legendary and not just for their looks. Overall, Zenescope has some great writing to go along with outstanding art.
The book starts out with the nine-page story featuring Thumbelina, which we’re led to believe will soon be a new series. As with most fairy tales, the princess (Thumbelina) has been taken and locked up so she can marry an evil king.
In this case, the king and all his minions are crabby—as in, they look like crabs with legs.
After getting through the first set of arthropod guards, Thumbelina makes her way down a sandy hallway and finds much larger crabs guarding a door. After defeating these crabs, she finds a sacred necklace in the room behind the door.
After an argument with her soon-to-be husband, Thumbelina dons the necklace and is immediately transported to a beach, where she’s suddenly become full size and is no longer her tiny self.
After looking around and asking where she is, we read the words that no one ever wants to read in a comic book, “The End…For Now.”
This looks to be a new and interesting series from the company that has taken stories from our past and adult-ified them into great comic books.
If you enjoy classic tales reimagined, get to your local comic book shop and pick up the 2019 Swinsuit Special along with the brand new Belle (the Beast Hunter) Oath of Thorns series that dropped this week. You won’t regret it.
