Facials aren’t about anti-aging, they’re maintenance similar to oil changes.
About 10 years ago I tried my first anti-aging cream. Years later, I still profess to using it along with eye creams. I’m sure some are saying,
“why should men be using anti-aging cream?”
Don’t be fooled by the words. Anti-aging creams have little to do with trying to look younger, and more to do with maintaining healthy skin and protecting it from the harsh UV rays from the sun. The fact of the matter, the sun is no longer our friend, so we all need to protect ourselves from premature skin aging, especially men.
A short list of must-do things to help you maintain your ‘youthful glow’ at any age.
Don’t be afraid to use anti-aging cream. Exposure to the sun and harsh UV rays has an impact on everyone, so a little protection goes a long way. On top of damage caused by the sun, over time your skin begins to lose elasticity and EVERYTHING falls and wrinkles begin to appear. The forehead and neck are places that first begin to show signs of aging on men. Personally, I swear by Caudelie Premiere Cru, a natural brand rooted in the vineyards of Bordeaux, France. Leave it to the French to use wine (among other pretty awesome ingredients) to create one of the worlds leading products. It’s not anti-aging, it’s maintenance similar to oil changes.
Face Washing Before Bed
We’ve all been there. After a long night out on the town with more than a few drinks, you walk in the door of your home and you want nothing more than your bed. Well, that’s the opposite of the first stop you should make. A good face washing followed by a night cream is what you need most in the evening before bed. Moisturizing in the evening is almost more important than during the morning. Your skin produces new cells at night and the impact of your moisturizer is maximized during the natural rejuvenation process. You will notice the impact in the morning. You’d be surprised how refreshed you will look after that long night, or any night for that matter. Never skip a night!
Now I must admit, I’m not known to regularly purchase eye cream. Thankfully, I attend tons of events throughout New York City and the most obvious gifted bag item is the eye cream. Recently, while attending the DreamBall After Dark, guests were gifted a piece of heaven called, “Algenist.”
I’ve been using it for the past two months and can certainly attest to it’s collagen enriched ingredients helping to strengthen the area below my eyes. Prior to this I used the Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate by Clarins. As with the forehead, small lines will eventually begin to show on men, so this is another preventive and protective measure.
Manicures and Pedicures
This may sound strange to most guys, but my first manicure was with my father. It’s not your typical father-son activity. My father, being the discerning man he is, knows a few things about grooming. He is by far my biggest influence and perfect example of a man who understands the importance of self-care. He learned that from my grandfather, who learned it from his father. He would always say,
“no one wants to be touched by a man with rough, dry unmanicured hands. Protect your hands (and feet) and always wear nice shoes.”
Men and women alike, prefer men who are groomed without question. I’m not suggesting you go out for a polish or buffing, only a simple mani/pedi! I’d recommend monthly appointments and do your best bud a favor and drag him along.
