“Hand to Heart”
In the Town Center,
flags adorned sidewalks,
red, white & blue colored
buntings and banners hung
across the crowded streets.
The clock tower chimed,
telling all it’s now time for
the Veteran’s Day parade.
As trumpets did report,
the drum beats retort
the Soldiers, Sailors,
Airman and Marines
marched proudly on
wearing dress uniforms.
I remember the sounds
of hoof beats on ground
hauling caissons, cannon,
and wagons with old war
veterans waving to all.
My Dad stood there,
a little graying of hair,
hand upon his heart as
the Flag bearer marched by.
I did as he did, and still do
to this day. Hold my hand to
heart as our Flag waves on.
