We become what we believe.
—
We become what we feel we deserve. For many men, deserve can be a troublesome word. We subconsciously make the decision to limit what we want in life and tell ourselves that we’re destined for a life of mediocrity. It doesn’t have to be this way. We don’t (and never should) have to let our subconscious make decisions for us.
Which of your goals do you spend the most time thinking about?

You have the ability to choose what you believe. You have the power to choose. Your life as it sits today was molded by a series of decisions you or your subconscious made. If you’re not sure how you got to where you are, there’s a good chance that your subconscious was behind the wheel. From this day forward, I encourage you to be fully present in your decision making. Make the decision to believe in what you want, and make those wants musts. Think about what you regularly label ‘wants’, and what you label ‘musts’ in your daily life.
You may want to lose 30 lbs, but your work schedule and home life are getting in the way of you hitting the gym and sticking to a diet. You may want to learn a new language, but the cost of taking classes and studying for four hours a week are holding you back.
Your “musts” probably look a little differently. You must pay your mortgage to provide a roof over your families head, so you work hard and make payments on time. You must provide food for your children, so you go to the grocery store and keep them well fed. There is not an option for the musts in your life. They have to get done – no excuses follow them. If you start to shift your wants into musts, you’ll be on your way to realizing what you deserve. If you must lose weight, going to the gym is no longer an option – it’s a must, and there is no excuse that follows it. Making wants musts is a small shift in mindset that will let you take 100% control of your life.
No matter what you want, you won’t achieve it unless it becomes a must. ‘As he thinks, so he is; as he continues to think, so he remains’ -James Allen, As A Man Thinketh
Which of your goals do you spend the most time thinking about? If you haven’t conquered it yet, it may be because you haven’t fully bought in yet. When we buy into our ideas, we commit everything we have to achieving them. In this way we can truly make any goal we have a reality. As you think about your goals, try shifting them from wants to musts. When you label thoughts as musts, you’ll find a new level of commitment that you can use at your disposal – and when you commit fully, anything is possible.
Rewrite your story with musts, and commit fully to your vision. This is the way to guarantee success and become what you deserve.

Great advice Justin! I like the idea of turning wants into musts. As I try to start a business, it’s so easy to lose focus or get frustrated because I want it to succeed. As I learn to apply what you’re talking about here, the “must” of turning my writing hobby into a life-coaching business keeps me calm, patient, and focused. Thanks for the great advice and encouragement!
