How Low can Trump Go on Twitter? There May be a Limit

Still, Donald Trump hasn’t seen a consistent drop-off in support despite his controversial policy of separating parents from children at the southern border (now rolled back) and his trade-war saber-rattling. Over the past two weeks, @realDonaldTrump has a 35 percent positive score on Twitter. That number peaked on June 14, at 44.6 percent positive before settling into the 30s as the crisis at the border amplified. On two occasions—June 19 and June 25—POTUS went below 30 percent, at 29 and 27.9, respectively. Unsurprisingly, Trump posted caustic tweets on both days. On June 19, he wrote: “Democrats are the problem. They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13.” He followed up with a jab at Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) on June 25, suggesting she has an “extraordinarily low IQ.” In an agitated state, he also fired off comments about the Mueller investigation and FBI agent Peter Strzok before complaining about Harley-Davidson moving some of its motorcycle production overseas. It appears the high-20 percent range is the point below which Trump can’t fall any further. His loyal base won’t let that happen. –Alex Shultz
