Say what you mean and mean what you say!
Some of us have plenty of experience with people who did not practice this old expression.
When people don’t say what they mean and don’t mean what they say, we have to walk on eggshells in case we misinterpret what they actually say. Maybe it was a member of our family of origin or a member of our extended family or another adult who had influence over us. Can you relate?

If you clearly understand this kind of scenario, tell us how you learned to adapt. If you learned healthier, more open communication, how did you overcome the guessing games? How did you first become aware that you were walking on eggshells to avoid conflict? How did you move beyond this typically co-dependent dysfunctional communication style you learned early?
Did you learn a better way before you started raising your child(ren)? If so, what important lessons do you believe helped them understand the healthier way?
When you’re ready to submit, click the red box, below.

The Good Men Project is different from most media companies. We are a “participatory media company”—which means we don’t just have content you read and share and comment on but it means we have multiple ways you can actively be a part of the conversation. As you become a deeper part of the conversation—The Conversation No One Else is Having (TM)—you will learn all of the ways we support our Writers’ Community—community FB groups, weekly conference calls, classes in writing, editing platform building and How to Create Social Change.
