Even though this mural is gorgeous, what’s really happening here is mentorship.
Listen to these young people explain why their artistry matters. We need more of this. AND we need to restore and protect the graffiti art that already exists.
Because gentrification is often the erasure of identity, culture, and history. But revitalizing a neighborhood to make it what the residents who live there, whose history is in those buildings and stores and parks, that is how lives are changed for the better.
