Sometimes you just have to take a few steps back and appreciate some subtle humor from a Good Man.

I’m tired of all the negativity and complaining about the Starbucks plain red cups! I’m tired of politicians putting each other down instead of explaining their platforms to the people! Enough is enough!
I would much rather laugh. But not at the expense of others, or by those who do their best to carve some sorrow into someone else’s day.
I have a hankering for something to tickle my funny bone and put things in a different light.
Enter Will Rogers, an American Cowboy turned Humorist. Rogers got his early start in Vaudeville by twirling a lasso on stage. He holds a Guinness World Record for throwing three lassos at one time; one went around the horse’s neck, another around the rider and the third, under and around the four legs of the horse.
Rogers loved reading and talking with people; sharing his thoughts about life, politics, and people while on the stage. Pretty soon audiences preferred his humor over his rope tricks.

He appeared in several movies including They Had to See Paris (1929) and State Fair (1934), as well as on Broadway. Rogers also wrote six books and became a radio broadcaster, political commentator, and satirist. His down home style won him admiration and respect, prompting a nomination to be Oklahoma’s governor which he declined.
He died in 1935 at the age of 55 in a plane crash while on vacation in Alaska. His legacy lives on through his humor and perspective on life.
Here are 10 of my favorite sayings from Will Rogers that make me smile, make me think and give me a little perspective on life.
-
Try to live your life so that you wouldn’t be afraid to sell the family parrot to the town gossip.
Which goes to show you that even when talking behind someone’s back, ears are listening!
-
Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.
Don’t let opportunity pass you by!
-
An ignorant person is one who doesn’t know what you have just found out.
To share or not to share?
-
Never miss a good chance to shut up.
Some things are better left unsaid.
-
Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier ‘n putting’ it back in.
Nuff said!
-
Good judgment comes from experience and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
Perhaps from lettin’ the cat outta the bag!
-
Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.
You can learn from yesterday, but focus on it too much and you miss out on today!
-
We can’t all be heroes because somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by.
Honor Flight, an incredible organization that takes Veterans to see the war memorials in Washington, D.C., has adopted this as their motto! How fitting.
-
I never met a man I didn’t like.
Take the time to get to know someone. Relationships don’t just happen.
-
Things will get better – despite our efforts to improve them.
That’s a good thing!
