Shane Fairchild lovingly remembers his truck-driving, motorcycle riding, 6-foot tall redheaded woman.
“She’s the only person I ever met that ever treated me like I was me.”
Shane Fairchild’s memory of his wife is of a woman rough around the edges who would take up for him in bars when things got a little rough and who fought for every last breath. She was the first woman in an all-male motorcycle club and a life-long truck driver.
To most people, they were probably an unusual couple. He is a transman, she was a transwoman who transitioned at age 54.
Her family didn’t accept this, but their St. Louis community did.
Shane ends his story with this:
“She’s the only person I ever met that ever treated me like I was me,” Fairchild says. “You know, they say there’s always that one person, your soulmate. And I think Blue was mine. I really do.”
