James Franco on trying not to obsess over girls, reading on the toilet, and how he used to be a pain in the ass to work with.
James Franco is a busy man. When he’s not acting in movies, he’s acting in soap operas (and writing essays about how it’s performance art). When he’s not writing essays about soap operas as performance art, he’s writing fiction (and is headed to Yale’s Ph.D. program). When he’s not writing fiction, he’s being an artist. When he’s not being an artist, he’s directing homoerotic movies. When he’s not directing homoerotic movies, he’s posing for Gucci ads. When he’s not posing for Gucci ads, he’s engaging in his favorite guy ritual: reading on the toilet. (Or so he tells us. Check out the video.)
All of this busyness (and artsyness) has led to some people to poke fun of him, but we are not among those people. Franco (who made us laugh in Pineapple Express and cry in Milk) is a brilliant actor, and he has roles in a slew movies coming out this year, including Eat, Pray, Love and Howl (where he plays a young Allen Ginsberg).
We caught up with the 32-year-old recently in San Francisco to answer the usual questions we ask of interesting men. This is what he said …
