With only 30 of these devices available throughout the world, Midwest Functional Neurology Center (MFNC) is excited to be the very first in Minnesota and only second in the Midwest (after Chicago) to add this life-changing modality into their clinic. Helping as many patients as they can who are struggling with lingering neurological symptoms, along with helping athletes perform at a higher level, and brain injury rehabilitation for patients with persistent symptoms.
GyroStim is a breakthrough technology that actively addresses balance & dizzy issues related to TBI and post-concussion symptoms (and has put 1000’s of people back to work, back to sports, back to school, and back to life) quickly and effectively. GyroStim is a multi-axis rotating chair uniquely capable of combining vestibular stimulation with multi-sensory processing exercises — all in a safe, controlled environment.
Creator and owner of GyroStim, Kevin Maher, stated, “we’re able to stimulate and challenge the sensorimotor system in ways that simply weren’t achievable before. This type of robot had never been developed for clinical applications before. We are able to stimulate, exercise, and challenge the sensorimotor system, and we’re going to do it in increments and monitor their qualitative and quantitative response to each and every run. By doing this, we are going to make sure we are keeping the therapy at the appropriate level so that we can optimize and individualize the therapy to achieve the best outcomes in the shortest period of time possible.”
Dr. Schmoe, D.C., DACNB, owner of MFNC, added, “the GyroStim allows us to be more precise, specific and targeted at the vestibular system to recalibrate the brain’s idea of where it is in space. It’s going to speed up the process of getting people better and back to their life. We’re going to get them better faster and we’ll be able to do more in one week and have it more specifically targeted to each individual’s needs.”
Kevin went on to add, “the GyroStim is also great for those individuals who have plateaued in their recovery. You might be feeling good, but still have lingering symptoms. The brain has kinda healed in a dysfunctional state and this becomes the “new you” so to speak, and you are stuck in that recovery process. We can use the GyroStim to break through the plateau and challenge the brain and sensorimotor system to bring it to a higher level of performance.”
Combining their clinic’s ICON Intensive (Integrating Chiropractic, Orthopedics, and Neuroplasticity) with the GyroStim’s SMART Training (Sensorimotor, Multi-Axis, Rotational, Training) for an individualized treatment plan they are able to help their patient’s feel better in a shorter amount of time.
