The ruling applies only to Philadelphia for now, but Sessions is already floating new policies to make up for the defeat. Sessions announced on Monday that asylum protections for domestic- and gang-violence victims would be tightened, with applicants now required to demonstrate that their home country is unable or unwilling to protect them. Thousands of asylum applicants flee gang violence in Central America each year, and while the claims are processed, they can live and work in America. At least, they once could. Sessions also opened the door for applicants to be turned away at the border after an initial screening, calling the lengthy court processes a “loophole” to be closed. Social media users are siding with asylum-seekers, however. Sessions’ new hard-nosed approach is earning him 90 percent negative opinions on 30dB. –Hugo Guzman
