Recently, the Trump campaign and its base of supporters have taken some huge hits. Typically, when such a thing happens over a span of time, the base as well as the campaign make changes to the way they engage those who have an undecided vote. In this case, it has not gone well. In fact, instead of making changes, both campaign and supporters have doubled down.
After years of alleged sexual abuse and inappropriate sexually-charged banter, a recording came out that put the final nail in the coffin that is the accusation that Donald Trump has an eighteenth century view of women. In light of this revelation (which shouldn’t have taken this long to figure out in the first place) the numbers are in via recent polls as far as how likely women are to vote for Trump currently. There is only one way this writer can truly put it: It is an apocalyptic downturn.
Hillary Clinton now leads in the category of Women Voters by an unprecedented 33 points, and this does not sit well with some of the more hardcore conservative supporters attempting to salvage what’s left of a campaign in dire straits.
So they did what any half-witted support base would do, they took to social media, and that is where hashtags with poor intentions go to run free and spread a wealth of ridiculousness across the internet.
Trending over the past couple of days thanks to Trumps supporters: #RepealThe19th
Just so we’re all clear, they are talking about the Nineteenth Amendment.
Oh and just so we’re all clear, the Nineteenth Amendment reads as follows:
“The right of citizens of the Unites States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”
Enacted in 1919, the Nineteenth Amendment was put into place to ensure that women have the right to vote.
Yes, you read it correctly; Donald Trump’s supporters want to repeal the Nineteenth Amendment, seeing as how if women didn’t vote there would be a better chance of their man winning.
First off, this is a ridiculous idea that wouldn’t even happen DURING a Trump Presidency, let alone in the months leading up to a possible Trump election. However, this does have to give us further pause, despite the fact that it would never happen.
These people, a decent portion of our fellow citizens, Republican in affiliation, would go so far as to talk about taking away basic rights based on gender so that they can get the advantage. Sacrificing Democracy for Democracies sake. That’s what they’re proposing, (and probably don’t even know it). This all, including many other things that have evolved in the Republican Party, points to one thing.
We are bearing witness to the fall of the Republican Party as we know it.
The best they could come up with right from the word go, as far as a Presidential Candidate worth their nomination, is a Half-assed Real Estate Mogul with a reality show, a Brain Surgeon who has almost no grasp of modern politics, a Theocrat and a few authors/former Governors and Mayors whose records in office were about as poor as you could get. Which is why they weren’t re-elected.
The party has outed itself as a group that is out of touch with modern ways of thinking when it comes to politics, the economy, and most importantly: Humanity.
How many times over the past eight years have Right Wing members of congress attempted to infringe our basic human rights such as the ability to get married, use a bathroom, obtain contraceptives or Healthcare in general? How many more times do they think we’ll put up with it?
We live now in a society where basic human rights are on the front page every day and a great majority of us agree that the status quo handed down by the Republican controlled congress is no longer representative of the people. Black Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter, LGBTQ Lives Matter, and everyone’s Rights matter. Our country has long evolved past the idea that we are a “Christian” nation bent on racism, classism and general hate. Do these things still exist? Yes. But with the changing of our times should come the changing of our political representatives, so that they may reflect what we truly believe.
There is no room in our country for bigotry anymore. The United States has, for a long time, been at the forefront of change in our World, and this case should be no different. This is not even a case of being “Good Men” it’s a case of being good people. This is what we strive for, what we want for ourselves and more importantly, for our children and future generations.
#RepealThe19th is not a serious prospect, but it’s not a proposition to be taken lightly. Because the removal of rights in order to be a more “Conservative” Union is what they are working towards and have been for a number of years now.
