Monday morning, sunny & bright
I wake up however with a fright
Out of the window happiness just flew
For I am having the Monday blues!
Deadlines, projects and boss’s ire
Bad coffee & lunch on the run
Yeah baby, that’s their idea of fun
It seems more like my funeral pyre!
How good would life be
If the Mondays could be free
But wait. If Monday was sport & play
Tuesday blues would ruin the next day!
I pull myself out of bed
To face Monday, full of dread
Then it struck me. What do I work for?
Beyond the stress and bore.
It’s the Gucci, the Pradas, the Jimmy Choos.
That fill my shopping bags the weekends through
Its my Nina Ricci & my Aldo watch
That keep me going past front porch.
Its my weekends of drink & fun
The dinner at 9, the clubbing till one;
Such is life I pause with a sigh,
All my labor is worthwhile.
Then I glimpse at daybreak
A harassed mother of three
Who toils to earn her bread
So her kids can see better days ahead.
I see an anxious father
Saving coins with well earned sweat
Giving his son days more to live
In the miracle of work is his belief.
I see a man who can barely walk
But takes step by step on the block
He has to work you see,
To keep his home fire burning, unlike me!
I felt glad for my fun
Monday blues put behind, to work I run
I’m glad I work for Prada & Gucci, coz that means
I have choices unlike them who have none.
Suddenly I have given my heart to words. My bosom beats for them to the rhythm of first love’s anguish & ecstasy. So I write a newsletter Ethical Badass Tales where I talk about living a value- based life while embracing the human condition.
