Police Commissioner Disturbed by a Homicide Detective’s Letter

A snarky letter written by a 22-year employee of the Philadelphia Police Department who sought to admonish his co-workers has stunned the city’s top cop, who today pledged a careful and proper investigation into the matter.

Mr. Richard Ross, the police commissioner who read the pretentious posting several times and became concerned due to the language in it which historically has been used to refer to African-Americans, told me he can’t even begin to understand why Mr. Jimmy Crone, a homicide detective of 12 years, would risk his job over garbage left in a wastebasket.

The letter was significantly overblown relative to the offense in question, said Mr. Ross, who admitted that while co-workers often jeer and taunt each other over various offenses, he’s never seen it done in quite the manner that Mr. Crone employed.

Above a wastebasket, Mr. Crone posted a document which characterized the offender, who appeared to improperly dispose of their rib dinner, as a filthy savage who wasn’t burdened by significant schooling and who was born to a rancid whore of a mother and an alcoholic, absentee father.

“I am not in any manner trying to embarrass you, just the opposite; I’m here to offer my guidance and assistance in helping you make the difficult transition from a grotesque, primal animal to tolerable co-worker,” read a lower portion of Mr. Crone’s letter, which ended with the author urging the culprit to seek him out for help so that they don’t have to “live as the deplorable thing you are.”

It appears the detective, a white man who Mr. Ross noted has a relatively clean history, wasn’t addressing any one person in particular. Nonetheless, the police commissioner said the detective’s behavior was intolerable and seemed to show an individual who holds bias in their heart.

We’re taking this very seriously and the department is committed to a workplace free of intimidation, the commissioner, who was perplexed by the literature that had soon been circulated around the department by concerned staff, said at a Tuesday afternoon press conference.
