Commentators are often forced to hype the 40-yard dash to keep football fans remotely interested. But incoming rookie Shaquem Griffin produced some honest-to-goodness drama at the 2018 iteration in Indianapolis and probably helped his draft hopes along the way. Griffin, who played linebacker at Central Florida, was born with amniotic band syndrome, which led to having his left hand amputated at age four. Still, he was the defensive MVP of the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl (a victory over Auburn) and had some eye-popping performances at the combine. He completed 20 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, then ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash. That’s the fastest time for a linebacker since 2003. Griffin was considered a fringe prospect before the combine, but Sports Illustrated writer Peter King now believes the 22-year-old could be drafted in the third or fourth round. Over the last three days, @ShaquemGriffin has an 81 percent positive score on Twitter. –Alex Shultz Image: Twitter / @UCF_Football Source: 30dB.com – @ShaquemGriffin
