High school wrestling has become an onerous topic in particular, and Texas athlete Mack Beggs has been thrust into the center of that conflict. Beggs, an 18-year-old transgender boy from Trinity High School in Euless, Tex., has won the Texas girls 6A wrestling championship in the 110-pound weight class for the second year in a row, but critics say it’s not fair. Beggs, who has been taking testosterone but has not had gender reassignment surgeries yet, is forced under Texas law to compete against female wrestlers. Many said that his undefeated wrestling record was due to testosterone, and some of his opponents forfeited their matches rather than wrestle Beggs. Social is inclined to agree that Beggs has no business on the mat with female opponents. Social media users give the high school athlete 67 percent negative sentiments and call him a cheater. Ironically, Beggs agrees. He’s been fighting for the right to compete against male opponents, but to no avail. —Hugo Guzman
