Logan Lucky, which came out last Friday, is a heist movie in the same vein as Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven, though this version is far from the glitz and glamour of luxury Las Vegas casinos. Logan Lucky is based in North Carolina, and stars Channing Tatum and Adam Driver, down-on-their-luck brothers who hatch a scheme to steal money during a big NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. There’s more star power than just Tatum and Driver, as Daniel Craig, Katie Holmes, Riley Keough and Seth MacFarlane also play important roles. Rotten Tomatoes scores Soderbergh’s latest project at 93 percent fresh, but it finished a distant third in its opening weekend at the box office. The director has said he made the movie independently to challenge the way films are marketed, released and distributed. But it doesn’t look as though he is beating the system. Hopefully, though, that won’t encourage Soderbergh to retire again—over the last 90 days he boasts an 85 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
