The Cleveland Indians’ “Chief Wahoo” logo will stop being used both on and off the field by the 2019 season, according to a New York Times report. Indians CEO Paul Dolan admitted that although Chief Wahoo is beloved by many fans, he had to agree with Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred when he started pressuring the team to abandon the grinning icon for being inappropriate. Some traditionalist Cleveland fans have taken to social media to air their concerns that the team’s name will be changed, too, but a story in the Cleveland Plain Dealer quoted Dolan as saying that will not happen. In fact, plenty of people aren’t that happy about the Wahoo decision, with the Chief’s exit pulling just 52 percent positive sentiments. The team will continue to sell some merchandise with the logo on it, so worries that Chief Wahoo may entirely vanish may be misplaced. –Hugo Guzman
