Baby It’s Cold Outside

There have been a lot of snow days recently and you may be running out of things to do.  Luckily, Wai Sallas is here to give you a couple of pointers in the latest edition of Sports Explained: Snow Days.

This past week, Denver broke a record for the snowiest February ever at 22.2 inches. If it caught you off guard, you only have yourself to blame. The signs were everywhere.

There was this:

The real Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow calling for six more weeks of winter. Other groundhogs were not as respectful.

This winter I will remember thundersnow and imagining all the different ways people kept busy when stuck at home. I mean, how many board games can one family play. Luckily Hollywood has been down this road before and one film has cast a light on one way to stay busy during the worst of it.

But before you start a fire, and prove Billy Joel wrong, here are a few things you can do to past the time and enjoy the most snow you’ll ever see in your life.

One pastime that people of all ages, big and small can partake in is the sled ride. A simple activity. All you need is a dish, of varying size and material, a mountain, big or small, snow and a pilot.

Wax is optional.

Sometimes you can get ornery. Being pent up in a house for days on end is good for no one, and instead of taking an axe to a bathroom door there’s always the good old fashioned snowball war to get out that aggression and let a few fly.

Of course, be careful of hitting someone in the head with your snowball. Concussions have happened out on the snowbanks of Anytown USA, and the repercussions can be too scary to mention. Look at poor Uncle Jimmy, somebody help him.

If it’s not the snowballs that get you indoors, too much time out in the frigid temperatures can be bad news. You’ll probably do anything to get back in.

Oh, I almost forgot…

Well do ya?
