Today is October 4th, and the Feast of St Francis of Assisi.
Let’s look at a section from the famous, Prayer of St. Francis:
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love.
Consider adopting and practicing the belief that “it is in giving that we receive” in your relationship and you will likely experience the magic that is love.
Console means to comfort someone in a time of disappointment or grief.
Try approaching your mate with the closeness, availability and listening that allows them to feel safe, seen and heard.
Let them know they can count on you. Tell them, “I got you”.
Understand means to receive an intended meaning.
Try approaching your mate with curiosity, nonjudgment and open-ended questions. Ask them, “why is this important to you?” and listen. If you don’t understand keep asking questions.
Love means to have a great interest in or strong feeling for someone.
Try showing love by loving your mate they way they like to be loved. Know their love language and express it.
I feel loved when I receive the three A’s- affection, attention and affirmation.
St. Francis of Assisi loved animals and people. He asks us to care for and treat all living things with love and respect.
