The Miss Universe Pageant didn’t need Donald Trump to have controversy. The ending may have been shocking, but it shows that Good Men take ownership for their mistakes.

A man makes a mistake and the world is knocking at his door to shame him.
It was unfortunate. It was unprecedented. It was internationally televised.
TV Host Steve Harvey announced the wrong contestant as the winner of the Miss Universe pageant.
Down to the final three, Miss USA, Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines, Steve Harvey correctly announced the second runner up, Miss USA. Her initial disappointment was soon replaced by a smile as she waved, accepting her third place position and moved back with the other contestants.
The two final contestants moved to the center of the stage, faced each other and held hands, awaiting the results.
Harvey held up the card and read … the new Miss Universe is … Miss Colombia. Tears of joys flowed as she waved to the cheering crowd, accepted the flowers, and the gorgeous crown made of diamonds, topaz and sapphires was placed on her head. The first runner-up, Miss Philippines joined Miss USA.
Miss Philippines was stunned. Miss Colombia was stunned. The rest of the contestants were stunned.

And then it happened.
Steve Harvey shocked the room with the announcement that he had made a mistake and read the card incorrectly. The first runner-up was Miss Colombia; Miss Philippines was the winner of the crown and title.
Miss Philippines was stunned. Miss Colombia was stunned. The rest of the contestants were stunned. The audience booed and cheered, depending on who they were rooting for. It was incredibly awkward and Mr. Harvey looked incredibly embarrassed. Miss Philippines had to be nudged to step forward. Miss Colombia was unsure of what she should do.
Then Steve Harvey stepped up and took ownership. He showed the card to the audience and TV cameras. He was visibly upset by his error, but he asked the crowd not to boo the contestants. It was not their fault; it was his. You could see the angst in his eyes.
The TV coverage ended abruptly. Social media went wild.
Will he be asked to host Miss Universe again? My guess is no. Will this affect his career on Family Feud and The Steve Harvey Show? I certainly hope not. He brings a lot to both shows; including humor and a genuine caring for people. Which makes the error, even more difficult.
Will Miss Colombia recover? I believe so.
“This is a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.”

Will people have compassion for him or bash him on social media? They are already doing both.
He may not sleep well for many nights.
He tweeted out immediately after the show ended: “I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippines and Miss Colombia. This is a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.”
Steve Harvey made a mistake. It was unfortunate. But he took control and owned it. It’s what Good Men do.

He made an honest mistake. Regrettably it was beyond embarrassing for the contestants and Steve himself. He immediately apologized for the error. People make mistakes. Sometimes mistakes are public and at the worst possible moments. But he manned up and apologized. It is a beauty pageant folks, he didn’t hit the red button igniting the Third World War.
Exactly Jim. Some people get their kicks on other people’s pain and misery, or by creating pain and misery for others. I don’t get it. it’s a complete waste of time and energy when you can focus on so many good things. Thank you for your comments.
I agree with this article. It’s treacherous that we live in times where the good is ridiculed and the bad is over looked. Steve Harvey made a terrible mistake, but he immediately humbled himself and assumed full responsibility for it. He instantly went on Twitter and apologized. This was a class act in a very, very difficult situation. If ten percent of our politicians did what Harvey did, wed have a better world The four default words for Washington are diss, dismiss, deny and downplay. Let us be swifter to correct Washington on social media than Mr. Harvey.
Love the analogy to politics Jose. I long to hear about the issues instead of the whining about the other candidates and the finger pointing. Things happen. It’s what you do about them and how you do it that makes the difference. Thank you for your comments.
As they say, “shit happen.” Time to move on.
Thank Tom. Right to the point!
