“Megaton Rainfall” by developer Alfonso del Cerro “first-person superhero game” blends the best of strategic defense and superhero mayhem!

Director Zach Snyder took a fair amount of heat from all the collateral damage done to Metropolis during the climax of Man Of Steel. For all you would be super saviors out there who think they could do better, solo developer Alfonso del Cerro of Madrid based Pentadimensional Games brings you Megaton Rainfall! From the developer:
Megaton Rainfall is a First Person Superhero Game. You control an indestructible interdimensional superbeing with an immense destructive power and faster-than-light flying capabilities, and your mission is to save the Earth from an alien invasion. You can accelerate from 0 to mach 10 in 5 seconds, fly around a real-size-Earth, get out of the atmosphere, the solar system and even the Milky Way in less than 1 minute from any location!
Megaton Rainfall is the best Superman video game I’ve ever seen (Iv’e played them all and still have a soft spot of PS2 “Shadow of Apokolips”) that doesn’t feature the Man Of Steel. Developer del Cerro was excited to get the game in player’s hands at GDC 2015’s Indie Megabooth. The scale of the game is immense. You start off floating above earth, scanning for alien threats with with your super peepers. Once you find a hotspot you decent down to the planet’s surface (faster than a speeding bullet) and immediately engage any threats just like a Kryptonian seamlessly with ZERO load times. Between invasions you may fly around explore the planet and surrounding space at your leisure.
Currently the game is PC only so you’ll use the familiar WASD keys allow you to zip about in any direction. Huge ID4 level motherships send out endless waves of drones and assorted attack ships, each with different weak spots you’ll have to exploit to inflict massive damage. You must balance destroying them quickly and efficiently while keeping your cities protected. This task is not as easy as it sounds. Though you are indestructible, man kind isn’t. Each Metropolis has a health bar showing damage done by the aliens and any collateral damage done by your hero. If the bar runs to zero the invaders win! You can knock them out of the sky by shooting them with your laser beam eyes, controlled by clicking the mouse. It’s tricky aiming at a glowing red target somewhere on a saucer’s hull but indiscriminate blasting will cost lives and impact your score.
Megaton Rainfall is still early in development, so each encounter appears similar. Del Cerro plans to have players move to protect the moon, Mars and planets and across the universe. In some cases, you’ll have to confront the alien forces in space on the Moon and Mars.
Megaton Rainfall developer Pentadimensional Games is aiming to release the game sometime this year. I hope to have a proper review posted on All Things Geek as soon as I can play the full game! keep informed about Megaton Rainfall and sign up for updates here.
