That’s me, taking in the moment a couple of weeks ago on my morning run. I had to stop, take a seat, (and yes, a photo), and take in the moment because it was oh so beautiful. Those clouds eventually went away and by the time I finished my run they were completely gone. It made me realize how fortunate I was to be there and witness the miracle of that moment.
It also made me think about how many other miracle moments there are everyday. Everyday, for every person, in every town, across the globe and maybe even further! Alright, I’ll keep it on this planet for the moment, but every so often I’m struck by the moment. I realize how lucky we are to be able to experience it, feel it, take part in it. Both good and bad, life: what an amazing thing we have. It makes me so sad to see people take advantage of this precious life we have.
It also made me realize how many miracle moments are actually missed. I guess it’s like the tree in the forest, if no one heard it fall, maybe it didn’t fall. But just look around you, everywhere there are miracles, we just have to shift our lens a little.
The Olympics in Rio just ended and there are heart breaking moments as well as moments of elation, but really they’re all miracle moments. It’s so much about our perspective. I have a dear friend who trained for years and did not make the Olympic team 3 times. That’s 12 years and she was training most of her adult life. Heart breaking in one breath, buy an incredible opportunity for growth and all that experience can now be shared with others. I have other friends who are gold medalists. They too can share their glory, but I don’t think we should always be focusing on the winners. It’s all of us ordinary people who need some glory too.
I very much believe what Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” I happily choose the latter. Everything from my breath, to my health, to my body, to my family, to my community and beyond. All beings everywhere are pretty miraculous. Good and bad, but definitely miraculous.
I encourage you to get involved in your life and begin seeing your daily moments as miracles. Really, think about technology, travel, history, so many opportunities to be grateful in our lives. And this will only make you a better person. Be grateful and enjoy the miracle that you are! And remember, I’m always here to help. @teddymcdonald
