“They won’t let me.”
This phrase represents many faces who proudly identify as African, Asian, Latinx, etc. Is this phrase an anomaly? Is it a convenient and ready-made excuse used without thought or intellect? I offer this phrase globally in response to the millions of Americans who profess a pseudo ideology of superiority and continue to allow it to manifest in these Americas.
I walk out of my front door daily and am greeted by a confederate flag flying from the rooftop of my (I lived here first) neighbor’s home, vehicles up and down the streets displaying confederate license plates, confederate flag stickers adorning trucks and automobile windshields.
“Why can’t you just get over slavery?”
“They won’t let me.”
When I offer a phrase as simple as “They won’t let me” as an answer, it is met with disdain and consternation, which fuels their flaming tongues of vitriol.
“Why are Black People always wanting reparations?”
White people were given reparation at the end of slavery for the loss of “their-property-slaves.” Slaves never received the trillions of dollars they earned for their labor.
“They won’t let me.”
In 2022, some Southern HS bands are still playing Dixie at athletic events, completely disrespecting their minority players.
“They won’t let me.”
“Affirmative action is reverse discrimination.”
We acknowledge that there was/is discrimination, but you have had this assistance long enough. It is time to move on.
“They won’t let me.”
“What about Black-on-Black crime?”
Crime in any form is horrendous. Instead of acknowledging blatant and incessant discrimination in our justice system, we are met with the aforementioned idiotic statement.
“They won’t let me.”
“Mexicans are taking our jobs.”
What/which jobs? No quantification, just propaganda.
“They won’t let me.”
“They are murders, rapist, bad people.”
These assertions and disparaging remarks are made against individuals seeking a safe haven, never any mention of Columbus, or “Native-Americans” who were slaughtered, raped, robbed, and forced to live and continue to remain on reservations in 2022.
“They won’t let me.”
When, in this America, we allow an individual to become President who, by his own admission, committed criminal acts, lies incessantly, tries to overthrow our democracy, and is supported in those lies and misconduct by millions. Those that speak out against such criminality are tagged UNAMERICAN and UNPATRIOTIC.
“They won’t let me.”
Minorities are killed for traffic stops, selling cigarettes, babies are torn from their mother’s arms women are marginalized by or courts; we all know the stories.
“They won’t let me.”
“They won’t let me” speaks to an individual’s conscience. We live alone in the deepest depths of our own psyche; do we “roll” with the tide or pull the plug on the true “swamp.”
We can make our mouths say anything, no one really is sure if we actually believe what is being uttered. Many of the world’s inhabitants are excellent storytellers, and actors/actresses, and can be ever so convincing. However, what do your eyes tell you? What does your GUT tell you when encountering life’s manifestations, whether from a historical perspective or our current existence? Liars and deceivers are expert manipulators.
Divide and conquer is much more powerful than our human race actually realizes. It does not matter the ethnicity just look around you. Have you ever wondered why it is that those of us who have the least are always at odds with each other, be it politically or otherwise?
We are being used as pawns by those in power, and by power, I mean financially wealthy families and individuals. They are pulling the strings of those that are duped into thinking that they, too, will acquire similar wealth, and they together will do whatever it takes to remain in and have the prospects of gaining wealth/power, and they will do it at any cost as long as the cost is not THEIRS to PAY.
“They won’t let me.”
