The Weird Video Trump Showed Kim Bombs on Social

The trailer was publicly released by the White House on Wednesday and has since been viewed roughly 5 million times. It’s four minutes long, formally titled “A Story of Opportunity for North Korea,” and is full of stock images interspersed with shots of North Koreans and President Trump. There’s also a cheesy narration intended to convince Kim that he has a chance of changing the future and ushering in an era of peace for the oft-embattled Hermit Kingdom. The narrator not so subtly hints that the alternative is increased tensions and potentially war. The beginning of the trailer states that it was a “Destiny Pictures Production,” but that was apparently a joke since it was actually a propaganda film created by the National Security Council. Trump told reporters who watched it in Singapore: “I thought it was good. I thought it was interesting enough to show … And I think he loved it.” The cyber world feels differently: Over the past three days, “Trump + Movie Trailer” registers 61 percent negatives. –Alex Shultz
