Do y’all remember the first teaser trailer that dropped for Star Wars Episode VII?
Better yet, do you remember the nerdgasm you all felt? Like, full body nerdgasm?
No? Just me? Okey dokey.
“There has been an awakening in The Force. I have felt it.”
I want to speak to men who consider themselves awakened.
|
Keep in mind, I refuse to speak for all men. But for this piece, I want to speak to men who consider themselves awakened.
Has the Force been awakened in you?
{insert record scratch sound effect here}
What? Quit looking at me like that in that tone of voice, gentlemen!
And you…yeah you. Quit looking at me like you’re a confused dog whose owner told him to get out of the trash.
Look, y’all. I get it. I’m not going to ask you to breathe into your balls or see life through your third eye. I happen to think those are effective tools to accessing your highest self, but I know this kind of language can be polarizing.
Before I get into what I want to talk about this week, I want to let you in on a secret.
I used to be this guy. I used to be the guy who thought that all this awakening and spiritual mumbo-jumbo was a load of well-washed hogs.
I was born and raised in the buckle of the Bible Belt. When words like God, or Spirit were thrown around, it was almost always in an evangelical Christian context.
And even though I was raised – especially as a younger human – in the church, it never really resonated with me.
While the teachings never truly resonated with me, one thing did.
I’ll never forget when I was like 10 years old. One Sunday morning, our minister (who is a lovely man) was talking about soul. He was walking down the aisle and saw me sitting in an aisle seat.
The divine masculine has a responsibility to be light. When we take that on, we’re better. We’re better boyfriends, husbands, dads, friends, and partners. We’re not just better men. We’re kings.

“Look at young Mr. Hall here. He’s got a soul older than most of us in here and he’s all of ten.”
I knew I’d been some places before, but couldn’t figure out how.
Let me be clear, I’m not disparaging the Church. Many people get a ton of strength from it.
These feelings of being awake and being free are not new. But I’ve fought them in service of not looking bad to people with a more traditional outlook.
When I first started working with my original coach, she suggested a book to me.
I had a lot of anger and resentment toward spirit. God, the Universe, whatever you want to call it; I hated it all.
What God would take away so many people who I love? What God would let so many people break my heart? What God would let me almost die mere months after seeing my own mother die?
I was incredibly angry and resentful toward Spirit. This was until I read Neale Donald Walsch’s seminal book Conversations with God.
Walsch began by writing a letter to his perception of God. A really disempowering letter with tons of incompletion.
As he’s writing, he hears a voice asking him “are you sure you want to say all that?”
Simply put, that book re-shaped my idea of what I saw from God.
This was also around the time I bought a Buddha statue. The statue remains with me to this day.
Flashing forward, my idea of spirit was blowed up real good during my year with Accomplishment Coaching.
On my team, I took on the unofficial role of Team Dad. This wasn’t a role I chose, but it was a role I ended up relishing.
While I wasn’t the oldest on the team, I was among the oldest.
But that’s not why I ended up taking on this role. This wasn’t why this role was foisted upon me.
I took it on because of two things: my heart, and my presence.
I have started to embrace my presence as this calming influence in the lives of those I touch. I’m not a big, bombastic presence, but when I walk into a room, people know it.
And while I was reading up on a few things in preparation for this article, I stumbled upon an incredible resource. And so very timely to the awakening I have felt.
While I was figuring out what I wanted to say to empower the divine masculine in this world, I found this incredible blog post.
“The King archetype has the sterling attribute of “unyielding strength of character” and is relied upon by all in the realm to not yield to less noble, self-serving interests of compulsions. Thusly, the King inspires and unites the realm to follow his leading. He combines this strength with intelligence, right-action and wisdom.”
That paragraph knocked me flat. Because that really is how I see life. That’s how I see myself as not just a man, but as a king.
But not just that paragraph, the entire blog knocked me out. Very highly recommended.
This may not be a textbook definition of divine masculine, but it’s mine.
I’m not a big, bombastic presence, but when I walk into a room, people know it.

I see my life as under control by something beyond and above me. I’m a vessel for the world. And by that right, I have a sacred responsibility.
I believe that all men have this responsibility. I believe that all kings have this responsibility.
Here’s where I believe the responsibility lies:
- Guys put women on pedestals. Kings partner with women.
- Guys want huge muscles. Kings want to be healthy of mind, body, and soul.
- Guys get angry and resentful. Kings get real and responsible.
- Guys desire to look good. Kings are real and authentic.
The divine masculine has a responsibility to be light. When we take that on, we’re better. We’re better boyfriends, husbands, dads, friends, and partners.
We’re not just better men. We’re kings.
The divine masculine heart is a kingly heart. And that’s a man who can light the world on fire.
Do you feel this awakening in The Force? Do you feel this awakening in your soul?
Gentlemen – Kings – do you want to take on this responsibility of the Divine Masculine?
Email me: [email protected]. I’d love to support you in this journey. Let my journey support your journey.
You know something? This awakening is in all of us. It’s already part of us. We just have to let it exist and grow.
It worked for Luke Skywalker. He simply took the foot off the gas and learned to use The Force.
The moral of the story is this: don’t fight it. Surrender to the process. And you too can have this awakening.
Have you felt it?
