I would like to introduce you all to my all-new podcast.
Not Weird Just Autistic podcast, this is everyone, everyone, this is THE autism podcast for those age teen through adult.
Why is it THE podcast?
Because of guests like Katie Oswald, the Autistic Travel Coach. You may wonder why people on the spectrum need a travel coach or why we would need someone to teach is how to go on vacation.
If you do wonder you are probably not related to or in a serious relationship with someone on the spectrum. No offense, but they would know that most of us on the spectrum are creatures of habit. Mostly not Sheldon Cooper Bathroom Schedule creatures of habit, but pull us out of our environment, and we typically do not do well.
For example, it doesn’t matter where I go, the first night that I’m away from home I have a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep. I could be sleeping in my old room at my mom’s house or in a hotel room for one night.
There’s more to the job of Autistic Travel Coach then I originally anticipated. Way more goes in to the service than I expected. From helping pick out a location for your trip, to planning activities and building in necessary down time, Katie does it all.
We even discussed getting through TSA with or without a service animal, which was helpful for me, since I’ve not yet flown with my service dog.
Airports can be tricky places for people on the spectrum. I know I’ve somehow avoided several airport meltdowns in my day. To us the word “airport,” means “panic attack.” It’s not a literal translation, more metaphorical.
Listen as we chat and then go check out her site.
