With that in mind, it’s no surprise that the White House’s nuclear plan is geared towards replenishing — and even adding to — the nation’s already large stockpile of earth-altering weapons. Last week the President released the findings of his Administration’s Nuclear Posture Review (NPR), which was first commissioned a year prior. In a statement, Trump alluded to his interest in committing more money and resources to nuclear weapons, because that would actually lead to “arms control and nuclear non-proliferation” and a “moratorium on nuclear testing” by the rest of the world. His view isn’t shared by many others, however. Foreign Affairs writes: “Rather than laying out a plan to halt this slide into a more dangerous world and working to decrease reliance on nuclear weapons, the Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) hastens its rise by accepting the reasoning of U.S. adversaries and affirmatively embracing nuclear competition.” In other words, Trump’s nuclear mantra is something like “Anything you can do, I can do better.” Perhaps not surprisingly, Russia’s Foreign Ministry called the NPR “deeply disappointing,” a sentiment shared by Social. Over the last three days, “Trump Nuclear Review” has a six percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
