Whatever you’re going through, keep going.
Middle and high school students, parents, teachers, coaches, administrators, and school counselors have been affected by the popularity of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why because of its fearless approach in dealing with suicide, among other social issues.
As a parent, teacher, and coach—and as someone who has dealt with depression and suicidal predisposition, I want to reach out to as many teens and adults regarding the hope for those who suffer from depression, anxiety, paranoia, and suicidal tendencies resulting from mental illness and/or traumatic circumstances.
We’re all in this together, but many of us feel and have felt—all alone.
Sometimes a suicide can be prevented just by letting that someone know that he or she is not alone, even when they are surrounded by people who would gladly reach out to them, sometimes if they only knew.
Well, we know this goes on, so what would you say?
What message would you send to kids as young as eleven who suffer from depression and suicidal thoughts?
What kind words would you lend to a generation that can insult, shame, bully, and abuse each other at the speed of light and sound technology?
And for those of you who have been affected by suicide or have survived your own suicide attempts, what can you offer to kids who were and are just like you?
