Love should be that one thing that we never get disappointed by.
When we think of love, we only think of all its goodness. Magical moments that take our breath away.
Butterflies in our stomach that swoop in at any given notice.
Love is that one thing we all seek, the unspoken desire that we attempt to fill in the most random of ways.
It’s the most beautiful thing we can ever have on this planet and yet despite all of its grandeur, many are disappointed by it.
Just the other night over dinner I overheard a girl telling her friends about a blog she has, sharing her disappointing dates.
Another friend chimed in about her Facebook page that shares memes of her drinking wine to help her cope with her own disappointments with dating and her destined future of loneliness.
While they group all laughed it off, I didn’t find myself laughing.
Being a dating/relationship expert, I heard one thing. Hopelessness.
The unfortunate thing about love is it’s not guaranteed. That’s also the magic of it. The freedom of choice, the beauty in being chosen.
But when love disappointments, rejection can be a nasty bite that leaves marks for us to deeply remember.
If I told you I’ve never been disappointed by love, I’d be lying.
Love has disappointed me on numerous occasions.
The guy who I loved deeply, yet didn’t feel the same way back.
The guy who loved me deeply, but broken promises and broken trust that caused my heart to never feel safe again, left us both disappointed with love.
The guy who I loved and brought me tremendous joy, yet however something in my gut said that our future wasn’t to be forever and so I walked away. Even in that, I was disappointed.
So why?
Why would I still believe in love? Why would I commit my life to help other people find love.
Because I know that with love there is an abundance.
I’ve been hurt and left feeling disillusioned by love, only to be kissed again and to have all of my faith restored.
Do I have love now, yes, I do.
Am I grateful for that love? Everyday.
You see that’s one of the fascinating things about love. When you allow it flow freely, it never runs out.
There’s no shortage of love.
It is the gift that knows no bounds.
Rejection will whisper to you “Never hope again. This happens for everyone else, just not you. There’s something wrong with you, deeply and for that, you will always be alone.”
Love, however, whispers, “I’m coming from you. Stay open to me. You deserve all I have to offer. I will cause your heart to smile again.”
The challenge is, it is up to us which whisper we’ll listen to.
But always remember….. there is no shortage of love.
Its been more than a decade since I’ve felt what love is. i don’t have issues getting dates, but finding someone to grow with seems impossible
I thought the story was just getting started, and then it ended! I understand all the things she mentioned, and have had all those love fails she mentioned multiple times, always with the Other person cheating, leaving, changing.
